China-Russia Gas Pipeline Construction Gains Momentum

The tunnel passing under the Nen River, part of the China-Russia East Route natural gas pipeline, was completed on March 15, one month earlier than scheduled.

The China-Russia East Route natural gas pipeline is an engineering project of China and Russia enhancing energy cooperation and deepening a comprehensive and coordinated strategic partnership.

The project will better serve the Belt and Road Initiative and bring further industrial development to Northeast China.

The shielding of the tunnel under the Nen River is one of the important parts of the pipeline's construction. Starting from Heilongjiang's Daqing and ending in Jilin's Songyuan, the tunnel is 1,224.7 meters in length and has an inner diameter of 3.08 meters.

The tunnel, crossing stratum such as silty clay, applied several optimization measures in its construction including equipment transformation and remote monitoring to make sure the whole project was safe and efficient.
