CRM makes winning bid to build railway in Serbia

Updated: 2019-02-20

China Railway Materials Company Limited (CRM), a central state-owned enterprise (SOE), recently won the bidding to provide materials agent integration service for the upgrading of Belgrade to Stara Pazova railway, which is a part of Hungary-Serbia Railway in Serbian border.

The Belgrade to Stara Pazova railway, double tracked, has a length of 34.5 km, and a scheduled construction period of 36 months. In the next three years, CRM will offer integration services including international purchase bidding, on-site supply and organization, basement operation and management and international logistics.

Winning the bidding is another breakthrough after CRM was entitled to be a materials integration agent for China-Laos Railway construction, signaling that the central SOE is recognized by overseas clients once again in the field of railway materials integration services. The bidding not only impressed the field in Europe, but was a good opportunity for the company to become familiar with and grasp European related standards and further open the European market and expand its overseas business.

The Hungary-Serbia Railway was the first European railway infrastructure project involving China. It is an important project along the Belt and Road and a flagship project in the "16+1" cooperation format between China and 16 central and eastern European countries. The railway construction reflects the connection of China's railway standards and EU UIC standards and China's complete engagement in international competition in the field.

The line starts at Budapest, capital of Hungary, and ends at Belgrade, capital of Serbia, and has a total length of 350 km, 166 km in Hungary and 184 km in Serbia.
