Xiao Yaqing, Chairman of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), met with Ethiopian Minister of Public Enterprises Teshome Toga on Oct. 18 and discussed cooperation in the state ownership and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) fields during his visit to Ethiopia.
Xiao said that Chinese President Xi Jinping's important keynote speech at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation has clearly showed the direction for the cooperation between Chinese SOEs and Ethiopian public enterprises.

After briefing on basic information about China's state-owned assets management system and Chinese central SOEs, the principles and direction of SOE reform, and the main tasks of further deepening reform, Xiao went on to say that SASAC is willing to share its experience of SOE reform and development, set up a communication platform, encourage Chinese central SOEs to take part in the reform of public enterprises in Ethiopia under the market-oriented principle, achieve mutually beneficial results and win-win cooperation and contribute to the China-Ethiopia comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership.
Teshome appreciated Chinese central SOEs' investment and their support to local economic development, livelihood improvement and capacity training, hoping that Ethiopia could benefit from the experience and practice of China's reform to develop its economy, improve people's lives and create jobs.
Ethiopia will actively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on Knowledge Sharing and Cooperation of Public Enterprises/State-owned Enterprises signed by the two sides, he noted.
He welcomed Chinese central SOEs to take part in the reform of public enterprises in aviation, shipping, electric power, telecommunications and railway and looked forward to closer corporate partnerships and enhancing the pragmatic cooperation between the two countries.
Representatives of some Chinese central SOEs also attended the meeting.
While in Ethiopia, Xiao also visited the Ethiopian Railway Corporation.
