SGCC maintains power when strong typhoon strikes eastern China

Typhoon Rumbia hit Shanghai on Aug 17 with speeds up to 23 meters per second. Most of East China was stricken by storms and big winds. 

During the typhoon, local power networks broke 88 times in different regions, which caused power outrages for 65,000 users. The Shanghai branch of the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) sent 3,800 employees to deal with the problem.

The Shanghai branch said it would work to guarantee power supply in key locations and for people at risk, and maintain electric power balance across the city.

East China's Jiangsu, near Shanghai, also reported breakdown of the electricity grid that impacted more than 500,000 families. The Jiangsu branch of the SGCC made quick repairs to damaged networks to help restore power as soon as possible. By two o'clock in the afternoon, about ten hours after the arrival of the typhoon, more than 320,000 families had recovered power.

The branch was well prepared for the event, having inspected important roads and equipment and purchased emergency supplies such as generators, mobile light towers and carriages.

East China's Zhejiang province also witnessed strong rainfall during the typhoon. The local branch of SGCC removed billboards around power stations, temporary buildings, and plastic-covered tunnels, and trimmed about 3,200 super-high trees as precautions.
